Abstract

Abstract The author considers the definition of analytical chemistry and discusses issues about what is this science, fundamental or applied. The reasons for the stimuli and drivers for the development of analytical chemistry, its place in the system of scientific knowledge, and its internal structure are presented. The question whether the name “analytical chemistry” is often replaced by other terms, better corresponding to the current status of this science, is also discussed.
