Abstract
Aroylketenes generated by thermolysis of 6-aryl-2,2-dimethyl-4H-1,3-dioxin-4-ones reacted with 1,3,3-trimethyl-2-methylidene-1,3-dihydro-2H-indole (Fischer’s base) to produce (1E,3Z)-4-aryl-4-hydroxy-1-(1,3,3-trimethyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-indol-2-ylidene)but-3-en-2-ones. The crystalline and molecular structures of (1E,3Z)-4-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-hydroxy-1-(1,3,3-trimethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-indol-2-ylidene)but-3-en-2-one were determined by X-ray analysis.
