Abstract
In the present study, a novel series of isoxazole derivatives containing phenothiazine-sulfonamide (IIIa–k) were synthesized by the Cu(I) catalyzed reaction of nitrile oxides generated in situ with 1-nitro-N- (prop-2-yn-1-yl)-10H-phenothiazin-3-sulfonamide with good yields. Newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity. Among all the compounds synthesized, (IIIk) and (IIIh) showed excellent inhibition against all the bacterial strains tested with MICs ranging from 1.56 ± 0.21 to 6.25 ± 0.49 µg/mL. While the rest of the compounds showed moderate to low activity against all strains tested compared to standard streptomycin.
