Abstract
Anionic copolymerization of acrylonitrile with methyl acrylate under the action of the 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane–ethylene oxide initiating system was studied. Similarly to the anionic homopolymerization of acrylonitrile, the copolymerization is accompanied by the intra- and intermolecular chain transfer to the polymer. The influence of the copolymerization conditions on the intensity of the chain transfer leading to the formation of highly branched and hyperbranched copolymers was examined. The acrylonitrile–methyl acrylate copolymerization constants were determined: r1 = 1.25 ± 0.06 and r2 = 0.18 ± 0.07. Quantum-chemical calculations of the thermodynamic parameters of the copolymerization were made.
