(4E, 8E)-4, 8-Dimethyl-4, 8-decadien-10-olide 1 (ferrulactone I) and (3Z, 11S)-3-dodecen-llolide 2 (ferrulactone II), the macrolide pheromones of the rusty grain beetle, were synthesized starting from (2E, 6E)-farnesol and ethyl (S)-3-hydroxybutanoate, respectively.
