Abstract
The world community is currently being concerned about the problem of plastic pollution. Switching to alternative biodegradable materials could be a key solution. The article considers the development of a methodology for obtaining compostable materials from SMR (secondary material resources). Among the components used is the natural polysaccharide chitosan, obtained from waste from the processing of crustaceans. Comparative characteristics of chitosan received from various SMR are given. In the course of the work, an installation was created to evaluate the degree of biodegradation of materials under aerobic composting conditions. The introduction of this equipment, which has no analogues on the Russian market, will make the assessment of biodegradability accessible to a wider range of people and can serve as a starting point for the introduction of certification.
