Abstract
著者は1963年に米国ニュージャージー州の動物商からニホンマムシ雄2匹雌3匹を入手し飼育した。1匹の雌は1964年より1967年まで毎年出産,1匹は1966年のみ1回,残りの1匹は1966年と1967年とに出産した。合計7回の出産をみたが,1回に生れた幼蛇は3～12匹平均7.0匹であった。なお飼育中の照明と温度は次の通りであった:冬期は8時間照明で温度は昼間19～21℃夜間13～15℃,夏期は16時間照明で温度は21～29℃とした。春期は照明時間と温度とを徐々に増し,秋期には徐々に減じた。
