Laboratory of Arctic Oceanology

The subject of the Arctic Oceanology Laboratory is the physical oceanology of the Arctic with a focus on the study of coastal and shelf zones of the Russian sector of the Arctic Ocean. The laboratory staff conducts specialized studies of various hydrophysical processes (currents, water mass structure, sea level fluctuations, mesoscale and submesoscale processes, ice formation and melting, and others) in the seas of the Russian Arctic. Along with fundamental research, the laboratory is engaged in solving specific applied tasks to ensure economic activity along the Northern Sea Route. Laboratory staff act as organizers and participants of annual oceanological expeditions to the seas of the Russian Arctic within the framework of the scientific and educational program "Floating University" and other scientific expedition programs.
