The Laboratory of Radiation Physics (LRF) of Belgorod State University specializes in experimental research and computer modeling of the processes of interaction of various particles with matter, as well as the development of specialized sources of particles and electromagnetic radiation (primarily electrons, X-ray and terahertz radiation). In addition to fundamental research, a small innovative enterprise "Vacuum Systems and Technologies" operates on the basis of the laboratory, specializing in the production of vacuum equipment, fittings, as well as full-fledged installations for various applications. LRF employees actively participate in international research projects (DarkSide experiment, MPD, SPD, FLAP collaboration), the laboratory has its own experimental sites in the FIAN and JINR for conducting research on accelerators. A student design bureau operates on the basis of the laboratory, where everyone can implement their ideas and participate in the laboratory's developments. We are open for cooperation and are looking for undergraduate/graduate students, as well as employees in a wide range of disciplines (nuclear and accelerator physics, materials science, programming, computer modeling, electronics, obtaining low-dimensional structures, engineering, etc.).

Development and construction of units of experimental facilities, experimental stations, accelerator complexes

On the basis of the student design bureau and Vacuum Systems and Technologies LLC, all stages of the development of various experimental installations and their individual components are carried out. Thus, the employees manufactured the Nuclotron-BM@N ion pipeline at JINR, several experimental stations for JINR, RUSNANO Group, etc.

Studying the effects of pyroelectric materials on biological objects

An offshoot from the topic of pyroelectric particle sources, developed together with the Research Institute of Pharmacology of Living Systems of the National Research University of Belarus. Experimental study of the effect of pyroelectric materials (particles and single crystals of lithium niobate) on biological objects (primarily stem cells) for the purpose of electrical manipulation of objects, diagnosis of functional state, etc.

This work is being carried out as part of the work in the DarkSide experiment to search for dark matter. There is a pilot plant where a compact controlled fast neutron source based on the D-D reaction is being developed.

The implementation of a pyroelectric or piezoelectric effect in vacuum conditions makes it possible to obtain compact and safe sources of particles. This approach is being developed in our laboratory. Over the past five years, two PhD theses and one PhD have been defended on this topic

Studying the mechanisms of interaction of charged particle beams with dielectric structures

Various dielectric structures can be used as an alternative method for controlling and focusing electron beams. The laboratory conducts comprehensive development of a number of similar techniques. There is its own experimental facility in Belgorod (up to 50 keV), as well as experimental bases in Troitsk (FIAN) and Dubna (JINR). Over the past 10 years, one doctoral and two PhD dissertations have been defended on this topic.

The study of the generation of electromagnetic radiation in the terahertz range under the interaction of various structures with an electron beam

The generation of radiation in the terahertz range is one of the hottest topics in modern radiation physics. Our laboratory is studying the mechanisms of generation of terahertz radiation by the interaction of various materials with electron beams. The laboratory staff has a full-fledged experimental facility in Belgorod (100 keV), a station in Dubna (200 MeV) is being developed, and a separate installation for configuring detectors.

The study of parametric X-ray radiation

The study of parametric X-ray radiation
Parametric X-ray radiation is generated when a charged particle moves in a periodic structure near Bragg angles and frequencies determined by the diffraction condition on crystallographic planes and represents a collective response of the medium to the excitation transmitted by the particle. On the basis of the Department of High Energy Physics of the FIAN (Troitsk), the laboratory has its own. an experimental installation on a 7 MeV microtron. Preparatory work is underway in Belgorod, and the final experiment is being conducted in Troitsk. Over the past ten years, 1 doctoral and 4 PhD dissertations have been defended on this topic.
