The main directions of research in the laboratory: 1) Observational study of the structure of the "central machine" of active galactic nuclei: spectral and spectropolarimetric monitoring, measurements of the masses of supermassive black holes in the nuclei of galaxies. Radio galaxies. 3) The study of the structure and kinematics of various types of galaxies: circular and interacting galaxies, galaxies with polar rings, etc. 4) Feedback processes in galactic physics: the effect of stellar groupings on the interstellar medium, galactic wind. 5) The study of galaxies and quasars at high redshifts. 6) The study of gravitational lenses. 7) Methodological work: development and creation of spectral, photometric and polarimetric equipment for both telescopes of the SAO RAS and other observatories.

Ionized gas around active galaxies

Ionized gas around active galaxies
Along with relativistic jets, ionization cones are one of the most large-scale examples of the impact of active galactic nuclei on the surrounding gas environment both in the galaxies themselves and beyond. The study of ionization cones makes it possible not only to test predictions of the unified scheme of galactic core activity and to impose restrictions on its parameters, but also to study the gas environment of the galaxy and trace how the luminosity of the core changed over time. The study of the kinematics and ionization state of the gas associated with the activity of galactic nuclei is carried out by laboratory staff at the 2.5 and 6 Russian telescopes using observation data from other ground-based and space observatories
