Research directions

Research and development of a set of analytical methods for determining the target chemical purity of rare earth metals and materials based on them

+
The joint application of these methods to solve the tasks of high-precision and reliable determination of target impurities in pure rare earth metals (REM), chemical compounds and materials based on them has allowed to expand the boundaries of the definition and the list of impurities to be determined, to ensure multi-element and selectivity of analysis, to improve the metrological characteristics of the assessment of target chemical purity. The proposed project introduces fundamentally new solutions to the fundamental and applied aspects of methods of analytical chemistry of substances and materials based on rare earth elements. The fundamental part is primarily related to the study of the analytical capabilities of the X-ray spectral method, the atomic absorption method with a continuous spectrum source, arc and plasma atomic emission methods in relation to high-entropy ceramics (HEC) based on REM, hydroxyapatites containing rare earth elements (REE) and having luminescent properties, as well as luminescent materials, such as Y2O2S:Yb,Er; Gd2O2S:Tb; Y2O3:Eu; Ba0.2Mg0.8Al2O4:Eu. In the applied aspect, it is planned to solve a number of practical tasks aimed at developing methods of X-ray spectral, atomic absorption and atomic emission analysis, and further develop an approach for the complementary application of the entire developed set of techniques for monitoring the chemical composition of selected objects and supporting the processes of their chemical synthesis and production. The results of the project will be in demand in scientific and industrial laboratories working with promising materials based on REM. In case of successful implementation of the project, an agreement has been reached on the implementation of the project results into the quality control system of one of the leading manufacturers of substances and materials based on REM.
