Abstract
Solvent-free mechanochemical synthesis provides the metastable organocalciate K[CaA’3] (A’= 1,3-(SiMe3)2C3H3), whose ‘first contact’ with solvent determines how fast it rearranges to a more stable form: minutes (in hexanes) to days (in arenes). The latter form of the calciate initiates the polymerization of methyl methacrylate and isoprene under mild conditions.
