Abstract
The degree of association of phosphoryl-containing acidic podands 2-[(HO)(RO)(O)P]-4R´-C6H4-(OCH2CH2)2-OC6H4-4-R´-2-[P(O)(OR)(OH)], where R = Et, R´ = H (1); R = Bu, R´ = Et (2) was determined by the diffusion method in 1,2-dichloroethane, 1,2-dichloroethane saturated with water, and water–methanol (1: 7 vol/vol) solutions. Under the same experimental conditions (25 ΰC, 0.01 M solutions in aqueous methanol), podand 1 exists as trimers (n = 3), whereas podand 2 forms associates consisting of about 30 particles. Unlike podand 1, the degree of association of podand 2 depends on the solute concentration. According to the IR spectral data for 1,2-dichloroethane solutions, associates of both podands are formed due to strong hydrogen bonds involving P(O)OH groups.
