Abstract
The main aspects of the reactivity of 2-aminopyridine N-oxides and similar heterocyclic systems are discussed. Literature data are systematized based on the types of transformations considered with a focus on the major advantages and disadvantages of each synthetic method. The possibility to synthesize previously inaccessible functionally substituted and bicyclic pyridine derivatives based on selective transformations of 2-aminopyridine N-oxides is demonstrated.
