Abstract
A new lignan, macelignan, isolated from the arils of Myristica fragrans , is shown to have the structure (2 R ,3 S )-1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-2,3-dimethyl-4-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-butane by spectral analysis, chemical conversion and X-ray crystallographic analysis.
