Lanthanide β-diketonates and copper acetylacetonate in benzene quench the methylene-chain-linked triplet biradicals in the presence of magnetic fields. At 0.56 T, the quenching rate constant k q is in the order of 10 8 M −1 s −1 for the former complexes and 4.7×10 9 M −1 s −1 for the latter. Dipole-dipole interaction seems responsible for the quenching of the triplet biradical by the lanthanide complexes, while the Heisenberg exchange interaction is predominant in the quenching by the copper complex.
