Antiferromagnetic complexes with a metalmetal bond. XVII. Synthesis and molecular structures of the antiferromagnetic clusters (Cp2Cr2SCMe3)(η3-S)2RhL2 (L2 = π-C8H12 or (CO)2) with long CrRh bonds

Abstract
The reaction of Cp2Cr2(η-SCMe3)2(η-S) (I) with (π-C8H12RhCl)2 or (acac)Rh(CO)2 in benzene, which leads to the mixed-metal clusters Cp2Cr2(η-SCMe3) (η3-S)2RhL2(II, L = 1 2 π-C8H12; III, L  CO) have been studied. The structures of the antiferromagnetic clusters II and III were determined by X-ray diffraction study (II: space grop P 1 − , a 9.913(8), b 13.994(11), c 18.242(12) A; α 91.96(3), β 95.91(2), γ 106.24(2)°, Z = 4, two independent molecules; III: space group Pbca, a 16.966(5), b 13.190(5), c 17.885(6) A, Z = 8). Long CrRh (3.064(1)–3.009(1) A in II 3.3134–3.010 A in III) and short CrCr bonds (2.687(1) A in Ii and 2.708(1) A in III) were observed in both triangular metal clusters. In II and III the two S atoms and the ligands L are in square planar coordination which is typical of RhI atoms.
