Recent progress in solid superacid

The recent literature on solid superacid catalysts is reviewed. Until now, three types of solid superacid have been developed: (i) amounted acid which was obtained by the fixation of a liquid acid such as SbF 5 on supports of high surface area, (ii) a combined acid which was obtained by the combination of metal halides with metalsalts, and (iii) sulfate-promoted metal oxides. Specific actions and structures of these catalysts have been characterized and evaluated. Future prospects for the application of solid superacids to several reactions are also briefly presented.
