Dinuclear Eu+3 and Tb+3 complexes based on 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(diphenylphosphinyl)-benzene: Synthesis and luminescence properties

Abstract
• Two trivalent lanthanides complexes from 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(diphenylphosphinyl)benzene are presented, namely {[Eu(H 2 O)(NO 3 ) 3 ] 2 L}·H 2 O and {[Tb(CH 3 OH)(NO 3 ) 3 ] 2 L}. • Both compounds were structurally characterized. • {[Eu(H 2 O)(NO 3 ) 3 ] 2 L}·H 2 O strongly emits light in the characteristic red region. • {[Tb(CH 3 OH)(NO 3 ) 3 ] 2 L} strongly emits light in the green region. • The luminescence quantum yields for both complexes are quite high. A dinuclear Eu(III) and Tb(III) trinitrate complexes, {[Eu(H2O)(NO3)3]2L}·H2O (1) and {[Tb(CH3OH)(NO3)3]2L} (2) , has been synthesized by the reaction of 1,2,4,5- tetrakis(diphenylphosphino)benzene (L) with 2 equiv. of Eu(NO3)3・6H2O and Tb(NO3)3・5H2O. Both complexes were structurally characterized and their photo physical properties were studied. Complex {[Eu(H2O)(NO3)3]2L}·H2O strongly emits light in the characteristic red region and complex {[Tb(CH3OH)(NO3)3]2L} strongly emits light in the green region. The luminescence quantum yields for both complexes are quite high
