Nonlinear optical chromophores with furan units incorporated in the conjugated system were synthesized. Their second-order nonlinear response was determined by electric-field-induced second-harmonic generation (EFISHG) measurements. Off-resonant values μβ 0 as high as 431.10 −48 esu were obtained. The D π A (donor-accepted conjugated) systems were incorporated as side chain into MMA-chromophore functionalised methacrylate copolymers in various concentrations.
