Abstract
High-resolution synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction is used to study the crystal structure of the higher fullerene C84 in the temperature range 5−295 K. Solid C84 (mixture of two molecular isomers, D2(IV) and D2d(II) in the ratio 2:1, respectively) adopts a face-centred-cubic (fcc) structure at all temperatures (a = 15.817(4) A at 20 K).
