Abstract
Five novel iridoids, (E)-10-(4-hydroxycinnamoyloxy)loganin {4}, (E)-10- (3,4-dihydroxycinnamoyloxy)loganin {6}, (E)-10-(4-hydroxycinnamoyloxy)loganigenin {8}, (E)-10-(3,4-dihydroxycinnamoyloxy)loganigenin {9}, and 10-hydroxyloganin-10-O-β-D- glucoside {14} have been isolated from the aerial parts of Coelospermum billardieri, together with eight known compounds. The structures of the new iridoids have been deduced from their spectral data and confirmed by chemical correlations. Amination of 8 led to the major monoterpene alkaloid previously isolated from the plant, (E)-10-(4-hydroxycinnamoyloxy)cantleyine {1}, providing evidence for the absolute configuration of the latter compound
