Abstract
The fatigue strength of an austenitic high-strength corrosion-resistant high-nitrogen 05Kh22AG15N8M2F-Sh steel is studied after various types of thermomechanical treatment (quenching, quenching followed by aging, rolling at a total reduction of 40%). The life and the fatigue limit (500 MPa) are shown to be maximal after rolling. After quenching or quenching followed by aging, the material has almost the same fatigue limit; however, the finite life is longer in the case of quenching. The mechanisms of fatigue crack nucleation and propagation are considered.
