Research directions

Development and comparison of acidic methods for obtaining alumina from Russian high-silica raw materials

+
The work is devoted to the study of the kinetics and mechanism of interaction of bauxite from the Severonezhskoye deposit with ammonium bisulfate with further production of metallurgical alumina and analysis of its chemical composition and physical properties. Due to the large development of alternative / acidic methods for producing alumina, a comparison of the material balance and a preliminary technical and economic calculation of two main methods: bisulfate and hydrochloric acid will make it possible to create a technology for processing domestic raw materials and solve the problem of importing bauxite to alumina plants in the Urals.

Recycling of ash and slag waste from Reftinskaya GRES with ammonium bisulfate

+
The project provides for the development of a new method for the disposal of ash and slag waste (ASH) using the example of the Reftinskaya GRES, the largest in Russia. The total reserves of ASH at the sludge storage facility of this power plant exceed 160 million tons Due to the high content of aluminum oxide: 25-27 wt.% in the initial ash and up to 35 wt.% after enrichment, this type of waste can become an alternative to bauxite in the production of alumina. However, the high content of silicon oxide does not allow the use of existing alkaline technologies. The use of new acidic methods will make it possible to obtain alumina of metallurgical grades. In the future, this will make it possible to recycle more than 4 million tons of waste products annually and produce about 1 million tons of aluminum oxide. Ash utilization with the production of alumina will simultaneously solve the problem of increasing the efficiency of coal-fired power plants and the problem of shortage of domestic alumina at Russian aluminum plants.
