Department of Paleogeography of the Quaternary Period of the IG RAS

The department is engaged in a comprehensive study of the natural environment of the Quaternary period (the last 2.6 million years). Main research areas: — reconstruction of paleoregativity and paleoclimates; — changes in the relief of the Earth's surface; — dynamics and distribution of glacial covers; — history of river valleys and lakes; — structure of loess-soil series; — correlation of marine and continental Quaternary paleoarchives; — natural aspects of the study of archaeological sites; — geochronology of the Quaternary period; — laboratoryanalytical methods for studying loose sediments. Areas of work: the northern, central and southern regions of the East European Plain, the Caucasus and the Pre-Caucasus, the Caspian Sea, Central Asia, Altai and the Sayano-Tuva Highlands, Yakutia, Kamchatka
