Physico-chemical characterization of narrow fractions of dispersed microspheres of the FeO–SiO2–Al2O3 system
+
Fractions of magnetic microspheres (ferrospheres) with a narrow particle size distribution dsr - 1, 2, 3, 7 microns were isolated from the dispersed fly ash fractions. The sum of the main components of the chemical composition of the narrow fractions of ferrospheres reaches 95-96 wt. %, including Fe2O3 – 57-60, SiO2 – 25-28, Al2O3 – 10-12 by weight. %; the phase composition includes crystalline iron-containing phases, including Fe-spinel, α-Fe2O3 and ɛ-Fe2O3, as well as mullite, quartz and glass phase. With an increase in dsr from 1 to 7 microns in the chemical composition of ferrosphere fractions, an increase in Fe2O3 contents in the specified concentration range is observed. In the phase composition, with an increase in dsr from 3 to 7 microns, the proportion of glass phase increases from 39 to 45 wt. %, for iron-containing phases, a decrease in the concentration of ɛ-Fe2O3 is observed from 14 to 9 wt. %, a slight increase in α-Fe2O3 from 3 to 4 wt. % with a constant content of Fe-spinel phase at the level of 40 wt. %. Due to the composition, structure and unique properties, dispersed magnetic microspheres are promising for the creation of microspherical composite sorbents with a core–shell structure, magnetic carriers, affinity sorbents and biosensors.
