About

〉〉Mateusz Bieczyński is a Polish art historian, lawyer, curator and critic. He served as Vice-Rector of the University of Fine Arts in Poznan (2016-2020). He holds habilitation in Legal Sciences (Gdańsk University, 2019), PhD in Legal Sciences (Institute of Law of the Polish Academy of Sciences, 2011), MA in Art History (Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, 2008), PHD in Art History (Wrocław University, 2023) and LL.M. in German Law (Potsdam University, 2010). He was a participant of CuratorLAB (Konstfack, Stockholm, 2012-2013). He works internationally on art law and law and he is practicing curator of art and design exhibitions. He was preparing art shows in Poland, Germany, China (including Hong Kong) and Taiwan. In 2018 he collaborated with Hong Kong Design Institute on the cultural program “Imaging Poland”. He is a curator of Poznan Art Week and Ideografia – a poster festival in Poznań (Poland). He published 3 monographs and a high number of scientific articles about the legal dimension of artistic freedom. His newest book “From ban to freedom. A history of legal positivisation of the freedom of the arts” focuses the relation between art and law during last 3500 years in the European continent. Recently he is working with the issue of the Eastern post-war art with the special focus on poster design and sculpture.
