About

Manfred Staat is a retired professor and was the head of the Institute of Bioengineering at FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, Germany. He has studied mechanical engineering and received his PhD in engineering (Dr.-Ing.) from RWTH Aachen University with a thesis on nonlinear wave propagation in 1987. From 1988 to 1997, he worked at the Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany, in the Institute of Safety Research and Reactor Technology on structural reliability, probabilistic fracture mechanics, and plasticity. His research interests at FH Aachen included limit and shakedown analysis, mathematical programming, stochastic optimization, failure criteria, biomechanical modeling and numerical simulation of cells, tissues and organs, mechanical testing and modeling of hard and soft brittle materials (rock, bone, elastomers, soft tissues) including tissues, organs and implants.
