About

Andris Hiršs received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2020 from the University of Latvia by defending the doctoral thesis “Jēkabs Osis and the Tartu School of Personalism”. Since 2024 A. Hiršs has been a Leading Researcher at the LAC Institute of Arts and Cultural Studies. His articles have been published in such international scientific journals as the "Studies in East European Thought", "Problemos", "Religious-Philosophical Articles" and "Trames". His doctoral dissertation in book format entitled “Person and Personalism: Enduring the Collapse of Idealism” was published in 2022 by the University of Latvia. This book was rewarded by Latvian Academy of Sciences as one of the best achievements of the annual Science Achievements’ Competition A. Hiršs research focused on the subfield of Latvian history of ideas. Currently working as an associate professor at the Latvian Academy of Culture, A. Hiršs teaches courses on critical thinking, the genealogy of ideas, and the history of philosophy. He holds the position of visiting professor at the Latvian National Defence Academy and Riga Technical University.
