LUÍS HENRIQUE SACCHI DOS SANTOS is Full Professor at the Department of Teaching and Curriculum, Faculty of Education – Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). He teaches in undergraduate programs (in the field of Education and Health – Science and Biology Teaching) in the Biology Teacher Education Program, as well as in the Graduate Program in Education (PPGEDU/UFRGS), within the research line Cultural Studies in Education, under the axis Science, Curricula, and Cultural Pedagogies. He holds a Teaching Degree in Biological Sciences, a Master’s, and a PhD in Education (PPGEDU/UFRGS). He completed a senior postdoctoral fellowship (CAPES) at the Department of Social Science, Health and Medicine, King’s College – University of London, under the supervision of Dr. Nikolas Rose (Feb.–Aug. 2013), and a Visiting Professor Abroad Fellowship (PVE) – CAPES-Print UFRGS at the Department of Communication, Center for Animal Ethics, Universitat Pompeu Fabra – Barcelona/Spain, under the supervision of Dr. Núria Almiron (Sept.–Nov. 2024). He served as a member of the UFRGS Institutional Review Board (IRB) (May 2014–Apr. 2017). He was Coordinator of PPGEDU/UFRGS (June 1, 2017–Jan. 24, 2019, and Jan. 25, 2019–Jan. 23, 2020), and had previously served as Acting Coordinator between January and May 2017. He also served as a full member of the Research Committee of the Faculty of Education (2013 and 2015) and of the Graduate Committee (COMPÓS) of PPGEDU-UFRGS (2016–2017). He was Associate Editor of the journal Educação e Realidade (Sept. 2020–Feb. 2024). He is currently a member of NECCSO (https://www.ufrgs.br/neccso/?page_id=9 ) and of the International Network of Cultural Studies in Education (https://riecedu.org/). His academic work lies in Education, with a focus on the following areas: cultural studies in education; body studies; body and health; science and biology teaching. Recent research interests include: animalities; anti-speciesist education; animal pedagogy; and critical animal studies.
