About

Fish ecology and fisheries management, especially diadromous species including striped bass, Atlantic sturgeon, American shad, hickory shad, alewife, and blueback herring. Migration patterns of these species, and the spiny dogfish shark, along the western Atlantic seaboard. Relatedness of populations using morphometrics, meristics, body shape analysis, and otolith chemistry patterns. BS in Biology and BA in French, University of Dubuque, Iowa. MS and PhD in Marine Science and Engineering, with minors in Zoology, at NC State University. Postdoctoral study at NCSU. Teaching fisheries and undergraduate research at Unity College, Maine (1981-1983). Teaching introductory biology and marine biology (undergraduate) and fisheries related coursework (graduate) at East Carolina University (1983-2020). THCAS Distinguished Professor and Distinguished Research Scientist at ECU. Retired in 2000 but active in research and manuscripts. Courses taught at ECU: Survey of the Coastal Marine Environment (COAS 2125); Introduction to Marine Biology (BIOL 3660, 3661); Undergraduate Research Problems (BIOL 4504, 4514); Biology Honors-Intro. To Fisheries Management (BIOL 3500, 4550); Man and the Sea Seminar (COAS 5025; 5026); Fisheries Techniques (BIOL 5600, 5601); Current Topics in Coastal Biology (BIOL 5680); Graduate Research Problems (BIOL 6504, 6514); Biology Internship (BIOL 6994); Biology Thesis (BIOL 7000); Graduate Marine Biology (BIOL 7020, 7021); Fisheries Literature (BIOL 7350); Fisheries Management (BIOL 7360), Advanced Fisheries Techniques (CRM 7011); Case Management of Coastal Management Issues (CRM 6300); Dissertation Methods and Techniques (BIOL 8810); Introduction to Dissertation Research (BIOL 8810); Dissertation (BIOL 9000).

Metrics description
h-index
A scientist has an h-index if h of his N publications are cited at least h times each, while the remaining (N - h) publications are cited no more than h times each.
i10-index
The number of the author's publications that received at least 10 links each.
m-index
The researcher's m-index is numerically equal to the ratio of his h-index to the number of years that have passed since the first publication.
o-index
The geometric mean of the h-index and the number of citations of the most cited article of the scientist.
g-index
For a given set of articles, sorted in descending order of the number of citations that these articles received, the g-index is the largest number such that the g most cited articles received (in total) at least g2 citations.
w-index
If w articles of a researcher have at least 10w citations each and other publications are less than 10(w+1) citations, then the researcher's w-index is equal to w.
