Victor dos Reis (Luanda, 1965)

Assistant Professor in the Department of New Media Arts of Faculty of Fine Arts of University of Lisbon. Postdoctoral research in Image Theory (2017) with the study of the relations between art and science in the unknown stereoscopic photographs of the Portuguese naturalist Francisco Afonso Chaves (1857-1926). PhD in Image Theory (University of Lisbon, 2007); BAF in Visual Arts-Painting (1990).

College Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts of University of Lisbon (2014-2019). Chairman of the Faculty Assembly (2011-2014). Director of the Department of Media Arts (2014-2016) and coordinator of the Master's Degree in Media Arts (2010-2014).

Curator, among others, of the exhibition "No Reino das Nuvens / In the Kingdom of Clouds" (Sintra: MUSA, 2021), commemorating the 25th anniversary of Sintra's classification as Cultural Landscape of Humanity (UNESCO) and of the three exhibitions entitled «The Paradoxical Image: Francisco Afonso Chaves (1857-1926)», which take place at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Museum of Natural History and Science, both in Lisbon, and at the Carlos Machado Museum in Ponta Delgada, Azores (2016-2017).

Member of several scientific committees and speaker at different international conferences (Dublin, Canary Islands, Hangzhou, Lisbon, London, Montreal, Seattle) in the areas of Theory of Image; Photography; Art, Science and Technology; Visual Culture; Perception and Representation of Visual Space. He is co-author of the current Drawing programs for High Schools in Portugal.
