Abstract
The interactions of polyhydrides of molybdenum and tungsten of the type MH 4 (dppe) 2 with proton donors of different protonation ability were studied with IR and UV spectroscopy in CH 2 Cl 2 . It was found that the formation of a molecular hydrogen-bonded complex (OH⋯M)( 1 ) is the first stage of protonation. An ionic H-complex of the type M + H⋯;O − ( 2 ) was formed as a result of proton transfer. Deprotonation of [WH 5 (dppe) 2 ] + X − salt was found to proceed through the intermediate formation of complexes 2 and 1 .
