Laboratory for the synthesis of natural compounds

The main achievements of the team are related to research in the field of synthesis of derivatives and analogues of the marine cytotoxic alkaloid faskaplizin (1), a promising leader compound for the creation of a new generation of antitumor and analgesic drugs. To date, the laboratory staff has developed three different methods for the synthesis of this alkaloid, allowing modification of the basic structure of pyrido[1,2 a:3,4 b']diindole according to various positions. Syntheses of some natural derivatives of faskaplizine (3-bromo-, 10-bromo-, 3,10-dibromofascaplizines, homofascaplizines B and B1, and a number of others) were carried out, and a series of its synthetic derivatives were obtained, among which, according to biological tests, compounds with significantly greater antitumor activity compared with the parent alkaloid were identified.
