About

Javier Lasa, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in pediatric cardiac critical care and serves as Director of the Heart Center’s Informatics and Innovation Core at UT Southwestern and Children’s Medical Center.

Dr. Lasa earned his medical degree at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He went on to complete residency training in general pediatrics as well as dual-fellowship training in cardiology and critical care medicine at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatrics, pediatric cardiology, and pediatric critical care medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022.

Dr. Lasa serves in the cardiac intensive care unit at Children’s Medical Center, where his focus includes cardiac critical care for children and young adults with congenital and acquired heart disease, as well as care for those undergoing heart transplantation. He also has expertise in extracorporeal therapies, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and mechanical circulatory support devices such as implantable and percutaneous VADs.

His research focus is on the prevention and management of cardiac arrest in children with congenital heart disease. He has delivered many presentations, contributed to 10 books, and published numerous academic articles. He is a member of multiple pediatric life support and resuscitation guidelines recommendations groups, including for the American Heart Association. He sits on the Executive Committee of the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC4) as well as the Editorial Board for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and serves as a reviewer for several other academic journals.

Dr. Lasa is a member of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
