About
Dr. Mahesh K. Gaur is an Indian scientist currently serving as a Principal Scientist at the ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute(CAZRI), Jodhpur, India. He started his career as a SeniorScientist at CAZRI in 2012. He has gained valuable experience of working in both hot andcold arid environments. From 2022 to 2024, he served at the Regional Research Station of CAZRI at Leh-Ladakh to further specialize in cold arid ecosystems.
Dr. Gaur's expertise lies in aridlands geography, with a focus on the application of satellite remote sensing, GIS, and digital imageprocessing for the mapping, management, and assessment of natural resources. His research interests extend tocritical issues such as drought, desertification, land degradation, indigenousknowledge systems, and the socio-economic dynamics of India's arid zones.He has completed several sponsored studies for prominent organizations, including ICAR, NRSC, SAC (ISRO), UGC, and ICARDA.
Before joining ICAR-CAZRI, Dr. Gaur served as an Associate Professor for over 13 years with the Department of Higher Education, Government of Rajasthan. Additionally, he has held various academic and research positions at esteemed institutions, including Sandhan (Jaipur), IIM Ahmedabad, IHS Hyderabad, and IN-RIMT.
Dr. Gaur is a prolific researcher, having published 65 research papers in national and international journals, 60 conference papers, 55 bookchapters, 15 popular articles, and ten books.He was an Expert Member of the TaskForce for the formulation of the "National Landslide Risk Management Strategy." Furthermore,he is an active member of several national and international scientificorganizations, and serves on the editorial boards of various scientific journals.
Internationally, Dr. Gaur has undertaken academicassignments in South Africa, Namibia, and Costa Rica.His contributions to highereducation, environmental research, and technology applications for communityupliftment have earned him several prestigious awards, including the CitizenKaramveer Award 2011 by iCONGO, the Millennium Award forEnvironmental Work, and recognitions from the UGC of India and the Scientific Assembly of the International Committee on Space Research (COSPAR).
Dr. Gaur’s work continues to have a significant impact on the field of arid zone research, particularly in the areas of sustainableresource management, environmental conservation, and socio-economic development in arid regions.
