Research directions
Recycling, regeneration and recovery of waste
+
Development of technologies for processing, recycling and neutralization of production/consumption waste, ensuring their maximum involvement in economic turnover as raw materials for the production of new products, as well as the extraction and restoration of valuable components
Valorization of solid inorganic waste from industrial production and by-products (ash and slag from thermal power plants, construction waste from demolition of buildings and structures, waste from mining and processing of minerals, slag from ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, etc.)
Technologies for the reclamation of objects of accumulated environmental damage (tailings dumps, rock dumps, settling ponds, sludge storage and etc.)
The involvement of plant biomass and its waste in chemical processing to produce products with high added value
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of products to analyze potential environmental impacts and improve the environmental performance of products at various stages
Remediation and environmental management
+
Development of technologies for remediation of technogenically polluted soils, soils, and water bodies within cities and industrial territories. Development of materials with a regulated service life that are completely decomposed in the environment:
- Micro- and mesoporous inorganic materials (zeolite-like materials, alkali metal hydroaluminosilicates, silico-alumophosphates, etc.) with adjustable structural and sorption characteristics for purification of liquid and gaseous media from pollutants of various nature
- Natural and synthetic clay minerals, as well as their modified forms (organolines, pillar clays, etc.) for environmental and biotechnological applications (sorbents, catalysts, fillers)
- Eco-friendly alternative materials, products and related flows of substances and processes ("green" corrosion inhibitors, marine antifouling agents and coatings, anti-icing and anti-freezing reagents, etc.)
- Biodegradable materials based on biopolymers, including nano (bio) composites for the production of packaging, agricultural, pharmaceutical and medical products
- Resource-saving and environmental protection technologies of industrial and economic development of the territories of the Arctic zone
Decarbonization and low-carbon technologies
+
Development of materials and technologies for carbon dioxide capture, its useful use for the production of economically valuable products, as well as long-term geological storage
- Theoretical and experimental studies of the processes of geochemical binding of carbon dioxide
- Development of in situ and ex situ methods (physical, chemical, microbiological) for the intensification of mineral carbonation
- Carbon dioxide capture systems using membranes and solid sorbents
- Low-carbon mineral binders (magnesia, geopolymer and related alkali-activated materials, etc.)
- Technologies for the useful use of carbon dioxide for the production of carbon-neutral and carbon-negative building materials
