Reactivity of 5-aryloxazolidines.
In the last decade our attention was attracted to 5-aryloxazolidines, which became easily available relatively recently, with the appearance of a method for their preparation by the reaction of [3+2]-cycloaddition of nonstabilized azomethine ylides with aromatic aldehydes. The abundant chemical properties of these cyclic aminoacetals have already opened the way to a wide range of β-phenethylamines, arylethanolamines, 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines, 4-aryl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-γ-carbolines, 4-methyl-1,3-diphenylazetidine-2-carbonitriles, 7,12-dihydro-6,12-methanodibenzo[c,f]azocines, benzodiazepinones, and other compounds.
