The laboratory was founded in 1985. The head of the laboratory since its foundation has been Academician V.L. Makarov. Research activity areas: AI Technology and Math Methods for Data Economy. The laboratory is engaged in simulation modeling of socio-economic processes in a wide range of tasks. The laboratory created and maintains the Internet portal "Laboratory of Artificial Societies" dedicated to issues of agent-oriented modeling. Since 2006, the laboratory has been publishing the journal "Artificial Societies" (editor-in-chief - academician V.L. Makarov). The journal is
