Франсиско Мигель Санчес Маргальо

Scientific Director of the Jesús Usón Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre (JUMISC), Assistant Director of NANBIOSIS, a Singular Scientific Spanish Infrastructure (www.nanbiosis.com), and Director of the University Affiliated Centre of the University of Extremadura (www.unex.es). He is also the leader of a research group within the Spanish Network of Advanced Therapies (CERTERA Network). Francisco M. Sánchez-Margallo manages projects focused on minimally invasive techniques, with expertise in biomaterials, medical devices, robotic-assisted surgery, novel techniques, and imaging diagnostics in laparoscopic, endoscopic, and other minimally invasive procedures and technologies. He collaborates closely with surgeons, clinicians, entrepreneurs, engineers, spin-offs, universities, hospitals, companies, and national and international institutions, including Ministries of Health, Science, and Innovation.

He is a member of several prestigious organizations, including the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES), the steering committee of the International Society for Medical Innovation and Technology (iSMIT), the Spanish Society of Surgeons (AEC), the Spanish Urological Association (AEU), and the Spanish Society of Bioengineering (SEIB). He is also the President of the Spanish Society of Surgical Research (SEIQ), and a member of the Spanish Society of Laparoscopy and Robotics (SECLA), as well as various national and European research platforms.

Sánchez-Margallo has authored and co-authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications (h-index: 44) and delivered more than 900 scientific presentations at national and international conferences in the fields of minimally invasive procedures and surgical technologies. He has supervised 36 doctoral theses and Master’s students, and is currently supervising 5 PhD candidates. He has led or participated in over 110 national and international R&D projects.
