Development and research of a fuel cell with a proton exchange membrane for operation at subzero temperatures
+
One of the modern strategies for operating fuel cells at subzero temperatures is the use of small additives of alcohols to hydrogen, which allows maintaining the high characteristics of hydrogen-air fuel cells. Alcoholic additives to hydrogen can reduce the negative effect of negative temperatures on the stability and efficiency of the PEMFC and significantly expand the temperature range of their operation/storage by reducing the destruction of MEA components during the crystallization of the liquid phase. Studies are being conducted on changes in the morphology and structure of catalytic layers, membranes, membrane-electrode assembly, and the kinetics of electrode processes when using methanol as an antifreeze, as well as optimizing the operating modes of hydrogen-air PEMFC at subzero temperatures.
