My long-term research goal is to improve current therapies by individualizing strategies for the treatment and prevention of breast cancer. My main investigations focus on biomarkers that may predict response to standard regimens used to treat and prevent breast cancer and to introduce new approaches. I have conducted numerous clinical trials in the preoperative setting to assess the role of tissue-based, circulating, and imaging biomarkers. With colleagues from the Consortium On Breast Cancer Pharamcogenomics (COBRA) Group I was first to evaluate the role of genetic variants in candidate genes such as CYP2D6 in tamoxifen metabolism, safety, and efficacy. The work has been extended to evaluate the role of genetic variants in aromatase inhibitor associated outcomes in diverse populations. I have also conducted translational studies designed to improve wellness of those living with and beyond breast cancer. I serve as the Associate Director for Clinical Research, and Director, Translational Breast Cancer Research at the Weill Cornell Medicine, Meyer Cancer Center. I have previously served as Director of the Women’s Malignancies Disease Group at Johns Hopkins. Nationally, I am Vice Chair of the NRG Translational Science Committee, and Co-Chair of the NRG Breast Translational Working Group.
