Sayonara de Fatima Faria De Barbosa

Dr. Sayonara Barbosa, originally from Brazil, is a distinguished academic in the fields of critical care and nursing informatics. She completed her Doctoral degree in Health Informatics at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). Her academic excellence was recognized with a Fulbright Visiting Scholar grant, enabling her to further her research at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in the United States. Dr. Barbosa later completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan School of Nursing.

Since 2024 Dr. Barbosa holds the position of assistant professor at University of Cincinnati College of Nursing. Prior to this role, she retired as a Full Professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil. There, she was instrumental in establishing Brazil's first multiprofessional master's program in health informatics. Her scholarly work focuses on the development and evaluation of health informatics applications designed to improve health outcomes and ensure patient safety within a multidisciplinary framework.

Dr. Barbosa has made significant contributions at both national and international levels, stemming from her extensive clinical experience in critical care nursing and her pioneering integration of emerging technologies in healthcare. In Brazil, she has held prominent positions such as the president of the Nursing Department of the Brazilian Association of Intensive Care Medicine and serves as the international representative for the Brazilian Society of Health Informatics at the International Medical Informatics Association.

Her research interests are centered on the utilization of large datasets to enhance patient safety, merging data science with digital innovations to push the boundaries of healthcare. Through her work, Dr. Barbosa seeks to merge theoretical knowledge with practical applications, thereby influencing the development and implementation of effective healthcare strategies.
