Kabir Ahmed
About
I am a Microbiologist from Bangladesh currently pursuing my PhD at the University of Stirling, Scotland, UK.
Previously, I worked as a Senior Researcher at ICDDR,B, Bangladesh. I was involved in Research to establish a modern Food Safety and One Health Laboratory at LSSD, icddr,b. I was responsible for guiding and monitoring the junior researchers to conduct various research work on environmental and food safety. I was guiding them in writing scientific papers. I was also responsible for collaborating with donors for fundraising to conduct various research on food safety and environmental health.
From September 2016 to September 2019, I worked as a Scientific Officer under the Research and Development Department of Healthcare Information System Limited (https://www.daktare.com/), which is a technology-based company working on developing digital healthcare for Bangladesh. Here I did the following work. (1) I conducted regular Health Seminars for the different factory workers, particularly in packaging and garment factories in Bangladesh.
(2) I was monitoring the health conditions of these factory workers by analysing the health data obtained from periodical health check-ups conducted by HISL and providing them with health tips accordingly.
(3) I was writing different health blogs on food and nutrition, general health advice, child health, women’s health, fitness, etc., regularly. I wrote around 200 Bangla health blogs, which are available at the following URL (https://www.daktare.com/blog)
(4) I also helped the IT team to develop the PHR-related app called “daktar-e” available in the Google Play Store.
I again joined icddr,b Bangladesh as a Senior Researcher from October 2019 and worked until October 2023. During this extensive period of 16 years at icddr,b , I was involved in performing research on different enteric pathogens like Vibrio cholerae, E. coli, Salmonellae, etc., and on the Antibiotic resistance pattern of these organisms. I did extensive studies starting from culture technique to molecular levels (PCR, PFGE, AODC, DFA-DVC, DGGE, Metagenomics, etc.).
I also got training on PFGE and the Bionumerics software from Hong Kong to analyze the PFGE images for the clonality of the bacterial species.
Based on my research work at icddr,b, I have published six major research articles in international journals. To see my publications, you can click the URL http://bit.ly/2sxatYZ.
I also presented abstracts and posters at different International seminars and meetings held in India, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Bangladesh.
