Influence of Metal Ions on the Structural Complexity of Mixed-Ligand Divalent Coordination Polymers
Cheng F., Wang K., Lee C., Wang S., Thapa K.B., Govindaraj M., Chen J.
The reactions of the angular ligand 4,4′-oxybis(N-(pyridin-3-yl)benzamide) (L1) and 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (1,4-H2NDC) with divalent metal salts yielded three distinct coordination polymers (CPs): {[Zn2(L1)(1,4-NDC)2]·MeOH}n, 1, {[Cu(L1)(1,4-NDC)(H2O)]·3H2O}n, 2, and {[Cd(L1)(1,4-NDC)]·2H2O}n, 3. Complex 1 features a 2-fold interpenetrated 3D framework with the (412·63)-pcu topology, while complex 2 reveals a 1D triple-strained helical chain and complex 3 displays a 3-fold interpenetrated 3D framework with (66)-dia topology. Additionally, the reactions of the flexible ligand N,N′-bis(3-methylpyridyl) adipoamide (L2) afforded {[Co4(L2)0.5(1,4-NDC)3(H2O)3(µ3-OH)2]·EtOH·2H2O}n, 4, {[Zn2(L2)(1,4-NDC)2]·2CH3OH}n, 5, and [Cd(L2)(adipic)(H2O)]n (H2adipic = adipic acid), 6, exhibiting a self-catenated 3D framework with the (420·68)-8T32 topology, a 2D layer with the (413·62) − (4,4)IIb topology, and a 2D layer with the (44·62)-sql topology, respectively. The structural diversity observed in complexes 1–6 highlights the pivotal influence of the metal center on the degree of entanglement in CPs within mixed-ligand systems. The thermal stability and luminescent properties of complexes 1–3, 4, and 6 are also discussed.

Growth and characterization of semi-organic, third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) phthalic acid potassium chloride (PAPC) single crystals
Natarajan R., Meena M., Shalini M., Ebinezer B.S., Sundararajan R.S., Girisun T.C.
The utilization of slow evaporation solutions has proven to be an effective method for obtaining single crystals of semi-organic NLO from an aqueous solution. Throughout the course of this experiment, the ambient temperature was employed. Information about the crystal’s structure was revealed through single-crystal XRD, showing that it was (PAPC) crystallized in a cubic system with space group F. Through the utilization of FT-IR analysis, the arrangement of functional groups within the developed crystal was identified. A 223 nm cut-off wavelength was determined through UV–Vis–NIR spectroscopy. Apart from linear optical properties like the extinction coefficient (K) and reflectance (R), various geometrical aspects were analyzed in this investigation. Furthermore, the crystal exhibited a significant degree of optical transparency. The analysis of the fluorescence (FL) spectrum has been employed to study the behavior of PAPC luminescence. Different frequencies ranging from 50 Hz to 200 kHz have been employed to investigate the dielectric characteristics of PAPC. The threshold value for laser-induced damage was discovered to be significantly higher when compared to KDP and other organic materials. The SEM was utilized to examine the surface morphology of the crystal for a more comprehensive understanding of its appearance. EDAX analysis was performed on the PAPC crystal to identify the elemental composition within. The electrical characteristics were determined through impedance analysis. We employed a Vickers microhardness tester to determine the brittleness index (Bi), along with the hardness (Hv), Meyer’s index (n), yield strength (σy), fracture toughness (Kc), and elastic stiffness constant (C11). The investigation of the crystal’s third-order nonlinear optical properties was conducted utilizing the Z-scan method with a nano-pulsed Nd:YAG laser. The material displays either genuine two-photon absorption or an excited-state absorption. PAPC emerges as a potential candidate for optical limiting devices owing to its elevated nonlinear absorption coefficient (0.96 × 10–10 m/W) and reduced onset optical limiting threshold (2.14 × 1012 W/m2).

Rajkumar S., Karthikeyan M., Manohar A., Dhineshkumar S., Princy Merlin J.
Nanostructures of metal molybdates show great potential as high-performance electrode materials for the forthcoming development of energy storage devices. In present work, ZrMo2O8 nanostructure was constructed using a simple chemical procedure and followed by examination with the aid of several spectral and analytical tools. The supercapacitive properties of ZrMo2O8 electrode material were investigated using Cyclic voltammetry (CV), Galvanostatic charge–discharge (GCD) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy measurements (EIS). The as-prepared ZrMo2O8 nanostructures as supercapacitor (SC) electrode material exhibited pseudocapacitive performance with notable value of 288C g−1 at 1 A/g, significant cycling stability and 92.5% capacity retention with the coulombic efficiency of 87.4% even after 5000 GCD cycles at 1 A/g. The morphological investigations indicated that the higher Specific capacity (Cs) was primarily caused by the significant increase in active sites as well as active surface area. The Bode phase angle plot of ZrMo2O8 exhibited a low frequency intercept, with emphasis at approximately −52° phase angle, indicating a superior redox signature. The results infered that ZrMo2O8 nanostructures are promising candidates for high performance energy storage applications.

Availability of π–Cation Radical in the Oxidative Products of Oxidovanadium Porphyrin: Significance for DNA Binding and Antibacterial Activity
Muzaddadi I., Murugan A., Saha S., Raman N., Selvaraj F., Manohar A., Kulandaisamy A., Kumar P., Borah R., Shellaiah M., Ravikumar C. ., Hussain M.
ABSTRACTOxidovanadium meso‐tetrakis(3,4,5‐trimethoxyphenyl) porphyrin [VO(T(OMe)3PP)] (Complex 1) was prepared. The oxidation product of Complex 1 has been characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV), UV–visible spectrophotometer, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) by the addition of SbCl5 to Complex 1. There is a one‐electron oxidation product in Complex 1 that creates π–cation radicals in CV data. This is supported by an IR spectrophotometer. Subsequent EPR spectra verified the initiation of the π–cation monoradical, which subsequently transforms into a triplet state where S = 1. DNA binding and antibacterial analysis with Complex 1 have also been analysed. In the DNA‐binding analysis, the CV data confirm the interaction between Complex 1 and DNA. Furthermore, the fact that Complex 1 is more effective at killing bacteria shows that the metal ion's chelation with the porphyrin ligand makes it more lipophilic.

Investigation of Oxidative Behaviour and Structural Insights of (3,4,5-Trimethoxyphenyl)Porphyrin Ni(II) Complex: Experimental and Theoretical Study
Muzaddadi I.U., Murugan A., Hemamalini M., Tahir M.N., Raman N., Bezbaruah B., Ahmed B., Manohar A., Kulandaisamy A., Hussain M.F., Rajkumar T.
Meso 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)porphyrin [H2T(3,4,5-OCH3)PP] and its Ni complex [T(3,4,5-OCH3)PP Ni] (complex 1) have been prepared. Its oxidation characteristics were examined using diverse analytical techniques, such as UV-visible spectrophotometry (UV-Vis), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) with antimony pentachloride (SbCl5) or trifluoroacetic acid (TFA). The structure of the titled compound has been confirmed by single-crystal analysis. Cyclic voltammetry study of complex 1 provides that NiII is converted to NiIII porphyrin through π-cation radical formation which is further EPR supported by IR spectrum peaks at 1276 cm–1 with the addition of SbCl5. The confirmation of formation of the π-cation radical has been established by the emergence of a novel peak at 649.5 nm in the UV-visible spectrum. This peak, indicative of oxidation, was observed at the central Ni ion, distinguishing it from the porphyrin macrocycle. Additionally, the EPR spectrum informed the formation of Ni(III) from Ni(II) porphyrin which is oxidized with SbCl5 or CF3COOH (TFA) as $$d_{z}^{2}$$ orbital has a single electron with high spin, S = 3/2 ground state in complex 1. Crystallographic analysis and Hirshfeld surface analysis, show hydrogen bonding and molecular packing in the crystal lattice. DFT calculation and experimental HOMO–LUMO gap in solvent closely align with the theoretically determined HOMO–LUMO energy difference (0.92 eV) for complex 1.

Rajkumar S., Gowri S., Karthikeyan M., Dhineshkumar S., Ansar S., Priyadharshan M., Merlin J.P.
Owing to the energy crisis and environmental pollution deterioration, people are working to develop new kinds of electrical energy storage systems. Bimetallic oxides have been considered potential candidates for supercapacitors (SCs) due to their relatively high electric conductivity and abundant redox reactions. Herein, we designed and synthesized nanostructured Ag2Mo2O7 by the simple chemical route and further examined the sample with different kinds of spectral and analytical tools. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) studies analyzed the different vibration and starching modes of metal oxide and the pure phase of the obtained Ag2Mo2O7. The morphology nature of nanoflakes Ag2Mo2O7 can be easily identified from field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) can be observed. X-ray photon spectroscopy (XPS) studies the oxidation states of the Ag 3d, Mo 3d and O 1 s, which validates the XRD data. The as-prepared Ag2Mo2O7 nanostructure was used as supercapacitor (SC) electrode material, and it exhibited pseudocapacitive performance with noticeable specific capacity (Cs) of 430 C g−1 at 1 A g−1 and significant cycling stability of 93.7% capacitance retention with the coulombic efficiency of 85.2% even up to 5000 GCD cycles at 1 A g−1. The morphological investigations indicated that the higher Cs values were mainly caused by the significant increase in active sites as well as active surface area. The Bode phase angle plot of Ag2Mo2O7 exhibited a low frequency intercept, with emphasis at approximately − 50.6° phase angle, which indicated a superior redox signature. The results infer that these highly electroactive binary metal oxide nanostructures are promising candidates for high performance energy storage applications.

A Study of Rental Housings and Its Policies for the Urban Poor in India
Mehta P., Subramanian C.V.
The Covid-19 Pandemic in 2020 highlighted the plight of the urban poor, and the phenomenon of reverse migration was experienced by them. People were in need of food, clothing, and shelter in the City. This research paper will use the case study of an Urban Village in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, to understand the existing scenarios of rental housing occupied by the urban poor through an observational study. It explores the issues of identity in the City, the spatial, environmental, and sociological implications of ad-hoc rental housing development, and how the affordable rental housing complex under PMAY (U) misses the aspects that provide the urban poor housing justice in the City. Currently, architects, urban designers, and policymakers’ approach to merely generating an economic response to the issue of rental housing in India. This research paper aims to explore a holistic approach to addressing the phenomenon of affordability, accessibility, adequacy, and viability as a part of urban rental housing policy for the urban poor through the urban design lens.
