Juan Galván Carlos

Dr Galván is a senior researcher at the National Centre for Metallurgical Research (CENIM, CSIC). He joined CENIM in 1981 as a graduate student. He obtained his PhD in Chemistry from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1987. He was a visiting scientist at Lehigh University (Bethlehem, PA) during 1988-1989. He was promoted to Staff Scientist at CSIC in 1989. He spent a sabbatical as a visiting scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the University of California at Berkeley in 1991. He joined the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM, CSIC) in 1993 and returned to CENIM in 2001. His research interests include three different areas closely related to the electrochemistry of materials: 1) Smart coatings with self-healing properties for active corrosion protection of metal surfaces. 2) Multifunctional materials for electrochemical energy production and storage. 3) Sol-gel thin films for ion-selective membranes and electrochemical sensors.
