About
I work as the “Technical Specialist - Honey Bees” within the NSW Dept. of Primary Industries and Regional Development (NSW DPIRD). I'm also a part-time Masters by Research student with University of New England's Animal Genetics and Breeding Unit (UNE AGBU). I am a leader in honey bee genetics research, development and extension. I co-managed Australia’s first National Honey Bee Genetic Improvement Program (Plan Bee) and reference population to use contemporary breeding technologies. For the past 17 years I've immersed myself in US bee research lab (e.g. UC Davis, UMN, WSU) and field work, US/AU commercial queen breeding and honey production seasonal labour, AU research, development and extension while employed in the public and private sectors, and independent contracting to provide queen bee artificial insemination services and training internationally. My ultimate goal is to implement Plan Bee Breeding Manual (2nd Edition) standardized selection tools for honey bee production and Varroa tolerance traits in order to increase beekeeping business viability, queen breeding sector entrants, and food security through a transparent, NSW DPIRD and UNE AGBU-based RD&E platform in collaboration with industry and research partners.
