Prof. Jamal Uddin Ahamed Dr.

Dr. Jamal Uddin Ahamed is a Professor in the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at the University of Chittagong, with over 20 years of experience in research and teaching. He specializes in advanced materials science, focusing on multifunctional ceramics, thin films, nanostructured materials, and computational materials design for energy storage, spintronic, optoelectronic, and quantum device applications.

During his Ph.D. at Tohoku University, Japan, Dr. Ahamed developed prism-coupled STM light emission spectroscopy, achieving the first detection of radiative surface plasmon polaritons in alkanethiol monolayers on gold. This pioneering work continues to advance nanoscale optical probing in energy and quantum materials.

His recent work includes first-principles DFT studies of topological semimetals and lead-free perovskites, alongside experimental research on high-frequency Mn-Nb co-doped BaMgTiO₃ ceramics and Mo-doped Ni-Zn ferrites.

Dr. Ahamed has authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications and secured more than BDT 2.5 million in competitive research funding. His experimental projects also include Ti-doped barium strontium hexaferrites, Fe-doped BaTiO₃, CdSe and ZnTe thin films, and nitrogen-encapsulated fullerenes for quantum applications.

A dedicated mentor, Dr. Ahamed has guided over 50 graduate students, many of whom are pursuing Ph.D.s or working at leading institutions such as Intel, Google, NASA, and top global universities. He is committed to inclusive research and capacity building for the next generation of scientists.

Dr. Ahamed has completed professional development through Elsevier’s Researcher Academy, covering publishing ethics, gender bias, science communication, ORCID integration, and journal publishing processes. He currently serves as Guest Editor for Discover Sustainability (Springer Nature), Associate Editor for the Chittagong University Journal of Science, and Executive Editor of the CSER Journal, while actively reviewing for leading journals in materials science and applied physics.

In addition, he is occasionally invited as an Eminent Member/Subject Expert on PSC recruitment boards and serves as an Expert Board Member for faculty recruitment across public and private universities, enhancing academic evaluation and institutional excellence. Dr. Ahamed has also held key leadership roles including Department Chair, Dean (In-charge), and Head of the Self-Assessment Committee, and continues to advocate for ethical publishing, global collaboration, and application-driven innovations in advanced materials research.
