About

Dr. Roberto Parra-Saldívar (Principal Investigator)

Dr. Roberto Parra-Saldívar is a distinguished research professor at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), Mexico. He earned his Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Cranfield University, United Kingdom, and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Westminster, also in the United Kingdom. Dr. Parra-Saldívar has made significant contributions to academia, including serving as a visiting professor in Dr. Robert Langer's laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and at Harvard University.

With over two decades of experience, Dr. Parra-Saldívar has taught more than 50 undergraduate and postgraduate courses in disciplines such as Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology Engineering, and Nanotechnology. He has played a pivotal role in developing academic programs, including the Master's in Environmental Systems and the Master's in Energy Engineering.

Dr. Parra-Saldívar's research leadership is evident in his direction of over 80 national and international projects, where he has served as Principal Investigator. He has also contributed his expertise to evaluating projects worldwide, including in Poland, Singapore, the Netherlands, the United States, Colombia, and Mexico.

As the founder of MARTEC, a pioneering research laboratory focused on Wastewater-Based Epidemiology, Dr. Parra-Saldívar has collaborated with esteemed colleagues such as Professors Halden (Arizona State University), Barron (King's College London), and Regan (Dublin City University). His leadership in this field has resulted in the successful execution of four major projects, securing over $1.5 million USD in funding.

Dr. Parra-Saldívar is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI Level 3) and the Mexican Academy of Sciences. His research portfolio is vast, with a strong focus on biotechnology and sustainability. He has authored over 300 publications indexed in Scopus and has a significant impact on interdisciplinary research. As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at IECOS, he has developed GLAUCUS, a commercial green technology that integrates biotechnology with environmental sustainability. His work addresses critical challenges in bioprocesses and bioproduct development, contributing to the net-zero industrial transformation.
