About
I've a degree in Eng. Technological Physics by the University of the Algarve (UAlg) and a PhD in Physics by the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon (IST). I'm currently working in the field of Non-Linear Optics (light scattering in biological tissues) and VIS-NIR spectroscopy. I'm particularly interested in developing Deep Learning models for analysis and treatment of spectral data for Chemometric tasks. I'm currently exploring synergies between theories of light scattering in turbid media, low order physical models and deep learning techniques. I'm involved in international collaborations around this topic with research groups from the Netherlands (Wageningen), China (Zhejiang) and Brazil (Pompéia).
I've also a background experience (12 yrs) in the fields of Solar Physics and Astrophysics (solar dynamos, MHD simulations, magnetic fields, solar cycle predictions, etc). I was a post-doctoral researcher at IST (Lisbon, PT), Univ. of Évora (Évora, PT), University of Montreal (Montreal, CA) and at the University of Algarve (Faro, PT) over the last years.
I'm currently an auxiliary researcher at the Center for Electronics, Optoelectronics and Telecommunications (CEOT) of the University of Algarve, in Faro, Portugal.
